Joe Jones: Capturing World War II with 21st Century Flair
Joe Jones: Capturing World War II with 21st Century Flair

About the cover photo featured in the April 2008 Airport Journals.

Joe Jones created this illustration for the surviving crewmen of Iíll Get By, a B-17 flown by the 8th AF, 96th Bomb Group. With Jones are two-mission D-Day air veterans Frank Fekete, and his crew, ball-turret gunner Rudy Kostka and waist gunner Jack Griswold.

It is stories such as the crew of "I'll Get By" that have captivated the imagination and inspired the work of Jones for over a decade.

Although, no effort on our part could ever repay patriots such as these for sacrificing their dearest blood for our country during WWII, still to this day it is vital we do make that effort in any way possible. It is to these great airmen that Jones has dedicated his career.

Jones would like to dedicate this feature article at this time to one of his dearest and closest B-17 friends, business and technical consultant, 50 mission 15th AF Fortress pilot, and NORAD's first director, Mr. Bill Smutz. This man of men has played a major role in Jones' work from day one, and the launch of Airmail Greetings simply would not have been possible without the support and friendship of the great air veteran. God bless you Bill!
