Airmail Greetings proudly becomes a major supporter of The National Aviation Heritage Invitational, hosted by Rolls-Royce.
It brings us the greatest joy to share with you the official 10th anniversary, National Aviation Heritage Invitational flagship art just completed for Rolls-Royce and event director, Mr. Ken Perish, a true custodian of our aviation heritage. As many of you probably know, this great annual restoration competition has three main catagories.
Antique: Aircraft built and operated before 1936
Classic: Aircraft built and operated after 1936
Military Warbirds: Just about any type.
To capture the spirit and essence of each catagory, without illustrating any previous winning aircraft in this year's official artwork, truly was a daunting task. Where do you start? After weeks of research and consideration, Jones felt that in the end, few planes personify the antique catagory more than a Curtiss aircraft. Picked was the Curtiss-Goshawk for both it's rugged design and sheer beauty. Jones picked the Twin Beech B-18 for the classic catagory. And, as his very first attempt at a "Pacific theater" aircraft he features the SBD Dauntless, for the Warbird catagory.
After lengthy consideration from a long list of iconic warbirds, Jones did pick the SBD Dauntless, for several reasons. One, because the great Navy, and Marine planes of the second world war are so often overlooked. Also, with Spielberg and Hanks currently working on the next "Band of Brothers" HBO series "The Pacific", we in our own way wanted to both salute all that fought in the Pacific, and also show our huge support for the integrity of these great film-makers as historians, and their gifted ability to bring a shining light to such important stories to share with us all.
Be there to help celebrate their 10th anniversary at the Reno National Championship Air Races, September 10-14. For more information on this great event, please visit: www.heritagetrophy.org.
