Now after 80 years, Airmail Greetings uncovers historic image of Byrd and Claus together in the Antarctic Circle. Hidden by National Geographic photo staff since December 1929, it is likely this is the only image in existence that proves the long fabled myth that Santa Claus did indeed make it a point to visit with Admiral Robert Byrd and his men during the historic 1929 Antarctic Expedition.
It was reported at the time of his South Pole visit that Claus, liked Byrd's aircraft so much that on his return to the North Pole he immediately issued his own elf-built "Byrd" Trimotor toy version for the following 1930 Christmas season. Cost of the 1930-1935 "Byrd" Trimotor toy has already sky-rocketed on E-Bay since the release of this rare color image.
Color prints and holiday cards are available exclusively through Airmail Greetings.
